Yo!
I saw it and I ordered it. I’ve never felt more sure about spending 26 dollars in my life. Impulse buy—yes; total joy and definitely not a mistake—also yes.
The Dictionary of the History of Ideas is a 5 volume collection of essays on all sorts of subjects. The first four volumes are filled with the essay while the fifth volume is a massive index.
It’s got all sorts of goodies in it from “Literary Attitudes Toward Mountains” to “Music as a Demonic Art”. Of course, it has basic articles on ideas, like the article “Idea”, but even these are fascinating.
I’ve been writing mini-essays lately to help me understand texts better. This dictionary has been one of my go-to resources. Instead of keeping them locked up in a note somewhere I’m going to make this my notepad.
So be on the look out for some fun with this dictionary.
